Alliance for Learning: IDs and Video Producers Serving Learners Together

To create video assets for learning products such as e-learning courses or instructor-led training events, instructional designers at times need to work with external video producers and their crew. The working relationship of ID and producer is crucial to creating learning assets that will address the needs of learners by bringing the ID’s designs to life.

Because IDs and producers are from different disciplines, they have to learn to communicate well together and to collaborate within their roles during the phases of pre-production, production, and post-production. In this session, IDs and learning professionals will learn how to build functional partnerships with outside production professionals to best serve the needs of their learners.

Panel Moderator:

Carolyn Dickerson, Sr. Instructional Designer, WestRock Corp.

Carolyn has had the opportunity to create, write for, and project manage video projects in both her professional and personal life for 20+ years. From large-scale, live productions to cell-phone video for social media, Carolyn is passionate about video’s unique ability to demonstrate a skill, communicate an idea, preserve a hallmark moment, and simply spread a little joy. In her current role as a Sr. Instructional Designer, Carolyn partners with vendors to produce live, animated, and 360 video for learning and marketing projects.

Teresa Roth, Owner, Teresa Roth Productions

This photo is Teresa Roth's earliest memory.  Little did she know she would experience joy like this in her chosen field of television production. Starting as a "cameraman" at KATV in Little Rock, she then went on to 21 great years at WSB-TV as a writer, director and Executive Producer. In 2008, she started Teresa Roth Productions and a relationship with The Home Depot.  Since then, Teresa has produced dozens of projects for HD in several different departments.  Teresa thinks that HD has the greatest associates and loves working with them.

Erin Harwood, Leadership Development Instructional Designer, The Home Depot

Erin is an Instructional Designer supporting enterprise leadership development at The Home Depot. She is a learning professional with 6 years of experience teaching, training, and designing e-learning and ILT solutions across a range of sectors. Erin’s primary focus for the last two years has been scriptwriting instructional videos. Working closely with a video production team, she helped produce more than eighty videos in that time. She holds a master’s in Instructional Design & Technology from Georgia State University.

Joshua Lipkin, Founder, Executive Producer, and Lead Editor, GreyLee Creative

Joshua is a bi-coastal veteran of the TV industry from LA to NYC to Atlanta, with over 16 years of experience working on programming that includes Ninja Warrior and The Soup. He founded GreyLee Creative to help businesses solve their video production needs. His specialties include e-learning, event coverage and post-production. Josh is a graduate of Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts with a Bachelor of Arts in TV/Video production.
