xAPI in Practice: use xAPI to track mobile performance support

There are many questions and much fuzziness about Experience API (xAPI). We can attribute most of these unknowns to the fact that xAPI is relatively new, and many of us haven't seen it in action. In this session, the speakers will shed some light on xAPI by presenting a practical example of its use: tracking performance in a mobile app. You'll discuss identifying performance tracking requirements, planning for implementation, using the ADL xAPI vocabulary to create statements, and the transition from planning to coding. In addition, we will look at considerations for evaluating and selecting learning record stores to house xAPI data.

Joe Halpin is the  Co-founder and principal consultant at Peregrine Performance Group, is a performance technologist with more than 20 years’ experience. He is the co-architect of the JobAider app. Areas of expertise include eLearning design and development, process and performance improvement, technology for learning and performance support. Joe holds a Masters in Instructional Technology from San Francisco State and a Bachelor of Science in Corporate Communications from Ithaca College. 

Russ Powell is the Co-founder and principal consultant at Peregrine Performance Group, is an award-winning learning-industry veteran who helps mid-sized and large businesses create effective and affordable training programs and other performance improvement initiatives (e.g., simulations, process documentation, job aids, instructional videos, eLearning, etc.) that help bring their workers to the next level. Russ holds degrees in behavioral sciences from Georgia State University and Loyola University.
