Strategically Aligning Organizational Initiatives, Learning, and HR Reporting: The Impact of New Standards for the Measurement, Management and Reporting of Human Capital

Presenter

 Dave Vance

‎ Executive Director

 Center for Talent Reporting

Join Dave Vance, Executive Director of the Center for Talent Reporting and former President of Caterpillar University, to learn about an exciting industry-led initiative to bring standard principles, measures, and reports to the field of L&D in particular and more broadly to all key HR disciplines. Accountants have had standards to guide them for years. Why not L&D and HR?

In this interactive session, we will explore these standards called Talent Development Reporting Principles (TDRp) and how they can improve our planning, management and reporting. In particular, we will focus on the impact our profession has on our organizations, how we can best demonstrate alignment with organizational goals and calculate our impact on those goals through the use of standard business practices and TDRp reporting. We will also explore the use of standard management practices and TDRp reports throughout the year to ensure planned outcomes are delivered effectively and efficiently. Dave will share his experience using these principles at Caterpillar and provide an update on the industry adoption of these practices and standards.

In this session you will learn how to:

  • Achieve and demonstrate strategic alignment with your organization’s strategy and goals
  • Reach upfront agreement with sponsors on expected impact and how to show it
  • Use standard reports to manage your program or function through the year

The program is for L&D and HR professionals who manage a program or function, produce reports, perform measurement and evaluation, or who are simply curious about a more business-like approach to talent development or about standards for L&D or HR and their potential value.

David Vance is Executive Director of the Center for Talent Reporting and co-author of the Talent Development Reporting Principles (TDRp). He is the former President of Caterpillar University, which he founded in 2001, and author of The Business of Learning: How to Manage Corporate Training to Improve Your Bottom Line. Dave was named 2006 Chief Learning Officer (CLO) of the Year by Chief Learning Officer magazine. Caterpillar was ranked #1 in the 2005 ASTD BEST awards and named Corporate University of the Year in 2004. Prior to leading Cat U, Dave was Chief Economist and Head of the Business Intelligence Group at Caterpillar.
