Nearly nine out 10 firms expect their managers to deliver coaching as part of their day-to-day work, but manager performance in coaching and developing employees consistently ranks near or at the bottom of employee survey results. Dr. David Bracken will speak about creating a coaching climate as a change process that touches upon topics that include defining “manager as coach” and behavioral models, measurements (upward feedback), creating accountability, integration with HR systems, communications and sustainability. He will also share a new model of “manager as coach” that focuses on relationships and trust, and the related topic of using multisource feedback in support of individual and organizational change.
Dr. David Bracken leads OrgVitality LLC’s Leadership Development and Assessment practice. David’s work focuses on supporting multisource, 360 Feedback and Coaching work for clients, as well as strategic employee surveys. Internationally, David is well-known as a thought leader for advancing the science of multisource (360 degree) feedback, particularly in its use to create large scale change and to improve talent management decisions. David is the senior editor and a contributor to “The Handbook of MultiSource Feedback” (Jossey-Bass, 2001), and “Should 360 Degree Feedback Be Used Only for Developmental Purposes?” (Center for Creative Leadership, 1997). His most recent publication is, “The ‘New’ Performance Management Paradigm: Capitalizing on the Unrealized Potential of 360 Degree Feedback” (People & Strategy, 2013) with Allan H. Church.
David received his BA degree from Dartmouth College, and MS and PhD degrees in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Georgia Tech.
