Presentation

How to Create a Learning Environment - We will discuss why traditional training methods, event based, informational, and e-learning are not effective ways to create behavioral change. We will also delve into a proven methodology for creating behavioral shifts in employees that positively affect their performance at work and at home. This methodology is based on the latest neuroscience research in how people learn, retain, and create change. Companies will be able to walk away with practical information that can be applied in their work place and their training programs and help create positive changes in their employees.

Presenter

Brent Darnell graduated from Georgia Tech in 1981 with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. After graduation, he held numerous positions in the construction industry as a Senior Project Manager and Mechanical/Electrical Coordinator on many construction projects. While working in this industry, Brent observed that it had become a very difficult, very rigid business made worse by all the people issues. This led him to the study of emotional intelligence, specifically how people in technically trained fields tend to have an emotional intelligence deficiency that can many times lead to costly business consequences. Brent had insight into how he could help companies work on their business potential by addressing their employee’s emotional quotient (EQ), so he started his own company. He subsequently wrote The People-Profit Connection: How Emotional Intelligence Can Maximize People Skills & Maximize Your Profits published in 2004; it became an international best seller.

Brent believes a person's emotional intelligence is one of the most important predictors of ultimate success for individuals and companies. Brent’s was a pioneer with EI in the construction industry and his philosophy and book have made him a leading authority in the field. In addition to his speaking engagements, Brent holds comprehensive EI training programs. Brent has helped improve the social competence and leadership skills of thousands of people working with over 70 companies in more than 15 countries around the world. He lives in Atlanta with his wife Andrea and their dog Ginger and practices yoga and tai chi and is an avid reader.
